    low battery range

Just to be pedantic... there is no way you will use 12kWh to charge it. between 9 and 10, maybe. More likely less than 9. The battery generally discharges to around 30%, sometimes a bit lower, but never less than 26% in normal use. So, from 30% charge (3.6kWh) back to 12 would take 8.4 (without...

    Flat Aux battery

The base model that was sold here in Australia does have an electric heater, but no wi-fi........

Drive battery degradation . Houston, do we have a problem?

Well, it is simple enough to work out using the energy taken to recharge, if you do say 40km and then it takes 8kWh to charge it up again, you have 200 Wh.... that figure I found is fairly consistent and compares well with other EV's around, considering it lugs a bit more weight than a pure EV.

Drive battery degradation . Houston, do we have a problem?

It seems to recalculate every 5 minutes and therefore only displays the most recent figure. Mine displays kwh/100km, so just move the decimal 2 places and you have wh/km. I suburban driving it seems to average around 200wh/km.

Drive battery degradation . Houston, do we have a problem?

My car shows just under 90% with EVBATMON, it is 3 years old and has 27,000km on it. I charge it just about every day, but it is not always down to where the engine starts. My friend's car which is the same built date, has over 50,000km on it, he does a daily commute of about 100km with daily...

Drive battery degradation . Houston, do we have a problem?

The PHEV battery pack also has a fan and aircon evaporator inside (hence it is not straightforward to remove), I don't know if it activates when the car is not in use though.

    Shocking MPG with towing

Well, as a car used primarily for towing it would not be my first choice...especially with the small tank. However, I would say that there would not be many petrol SUV's that would do much better as far a fuel usage goes towing 1.5t.

    Is it worth it?

The whole point of it is that it is a very "green" car, as with all EV's and Hybrids. The economics are secondary, and probably don't stack up in many scenarios at this point in time.

    Is it worth it?

+1 It seems many people forget just why some governments give quite substantial incentives for people to buy virtually emissions free vehicles... not here though

Leaving the PHEV idle for 2 weeks -?problem

Correction: This is only true for the models with the wi-fi interface, the "poverty pack" does not charge the 12V battery at regular intervals. Also, it is not a good idea to leave the 12V battery disconnected for a long time, as the Battery Management System memory depends on it (this is...

Drive battery degradation . Houston, do we have a problem?

I think B5 regeneration can in fact far exceed what a DC charger will do. It does taper off though as the battery charges. I noticed too when charging using the engine in stationary mode, it will no exceed 10kW. What is the maximum input from a DC charger?

Drive battery degradation . Houston, do we have a problem?

What makes you suspect that maximum regeneration is hard on the battery? I know that it can push in 30kW (possibly more) going downhill and for short periods when braking, but I would have thought the battery should well cope with it as it can also deliver 60kW (200A) I have got into a habit of...

    Maintaining SOC while towing

Yes, of course the 25kW rating is per motor. Somewhere in the tech manual it does say that in parallel mode only the rear motor will contribute, the front one has only enough power going into it to eliminate drag. As for you last point, I can imagine under certain conditions (say less than...

    Maintaining SOC while towing

The rated output of the electric motors is only 25kW, so on a long climb at moderate speeds in serial mode, they would certainly warm up a bit if they are asked to provide close to maximum (60kW). Also, when towing and driving in parallel mode, only the rear motor supplements engine power when...

    are all outlanders semi automatic?

It is not an automatic as we know it... it can lock the engine to the front wheels via an automatic clutch at speeds above 65km/h. The gear ratio when that happens is fixed (about the same as a normal car in top gear), when more torque is required the electric motors help. When starting, and...

Distance travelled : Electric vs Petrol

You could get a fair indication if you look at the trip meter and select manual. Provided it has not been reset recently, the average fuel consumption will show if the car has been driven mainly on battery. A figure below 7l/100km would support this.

On verge of buying, but have reservations!!

If your primary reason to buy this car is to save on fuel costs, it is probably the wrong choice. If you like having a car that can drive with zero emissions some or most of the time, go for it!
