AC Refrigerator and AC oil - PHEV 2013

I would keep a very close eye on that. Refrigerant would not just disappear without a leak and running the compressor dry could cost big money if it isn't already damaged.

AC Refrigerator and AC oil - PHEV 2013

From what I have read in the technical guide, the oil used in the aircon system is different to what is commonly used as it must have high insulation properties to protect the compressor windings. It even states that recharging equipment that has previously been used with other systems is not to...

    Drive battery degradation and replacement.

It depends on what you define as a problem. It may affect the range somewhat as it could start the engine earlier than really necessary. However, despite what many people think, that BMU was designed by people with detailed knowledge of the battery system. Spending a few hours on google and...

Evbatmon and Phev watchdog is showing the wrong SOH amount.

You can't just multiply the peak voltage with Ah, as it goes down (initially quite rapidly) as the battery discharges. That's why battery capacity is now more commonly stated in Wh (or kWh). The fact that it peaks at 4.1V/cell is not relevant, as it doesn't stay there for very long when you...

Would this work? Solar/wind to UPS, UPS to PHEV ?

The main limitation would be that it wouldn't work....

    Drive battery degradation and replacement.

Those quotes are certainly a bit steep, as you already worked out yourself. I had that service (and the 4 year one) done for $470.00 at a dealership 100km away because the local guys didn't want my business , they also quoted about $900.00 and when I pointed out that it is not much more than an...

    Drive battery degradation and replacement.

the update will possibly lock out the "watchdog" so people don't get the "Black Dog" after looking at the data

As an engineer, you should know that the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

For people disappointed with Range in EV.

That is true for mechanical bits, but I have found out from a friend who went down that route to install a wi-fi module, and they are coded to the vin number, only dealers (or some russian websites 8-) ) seem to have the tools (software) to install some electronic bits. Anyway, as time goes on...

For people disappointed with Range in EV.

In my experience after having owned my PHEV for 3 1/2 years, it uses around 200Wh/km in suburban driving conditions. That equates to about 42km from the usable battery capacity. This is the actual measured energy that comes out of the power point to recharge it! So, for me, being semi retired...

Secular and cycle deterioration as seen in the MUT-III.

but what does it all mean??? what's the meaning of (battery) life?

How to easily check if car has electric heater?

On RH drive model look under the passenger side floor, you can see 2 hoses for the heater.

How to best protect your drive battery.

Well, I used to fiddle with the paddles and check the SOH every 35 seconds using EVbatmon and later the Dog thingy, but at the end of the day, I have decided it is what it is and just drive and charge at random. I have 6Kw of solar power on my roof so, basically, it runs for free as I very...

How to best protect your drive battery.

I think they just made that up...... Or copied and pasted from an old NiCad battery powered remote race car instruction sheet....

How to best protect your drive battery.

You could also just drive the car like any other, charge it when you feel like it and generally not worry too much about the battery. That's what I do. 8-)

So why do we have Hybrid Electric Vehicles.

Your title says HEV, not PHEV, however, all replies so far talk about the virtues of the PHEV. The HEV as in the Toyota was developed primarily as a fuel saving technology, especially in stop-start urban environments. The best analogy for the way it works is perhaps to compare the battery setup...

    Drive battery degradation and replacement.

Interesting about the new one's SOH. Anyway, I do think the less dealers fiddle with the car the better it is ;-). As for a certain Youtube enthusiast's exploits, I do think the engineers who designed this car deserve a bit more credit. When you look at the few recalls, all of them quite minor...

    Drive battery degradation and replacement.

I think there are mainly two scenarios where the BMU will go out of calibration. 1. If there car is mostly driven in hybrid mode and rarely, if ever charged from a normal AC supply. 2. Where the car is mainly charged with DC. This is where there will rarely or never be any cell balancing and...
