Cold Weather Performance - North American 2023

Hey guys - I’ve been following this thread, I also own a 23 model myself. My work is designing lithium systems for military drones and RV’s, so I’ve been compiling some notes on the Outlander. Regretfully, every time you drive your Outlander using the EV battery rather than the gas engine in...

Flattened auxiliary battery - any consequences?

Hello All - System Errors and Faults are kept in an EPROM permanent memory chips, they can only be cleared though the OBD port. There's no much to lose regarding the 12 volt battery other than user settings. Regards - Mike

Does Anyone have a Outlander PHEV 2023 Shop Manual

Hello Guys - I need to confirm a PTC battery heater on a Outlander PHEV to see if the heater is shown in the shop manual. Also does anyone know if a 2023 shop manual is available in PDF form Thanks in advance! Mike

    Electric heater question

Thanks for the reply - As far as I can tell there is no battery heating on the 23 US models at all. I know on some older 19 models the battery had a PTC heater which operated off both level 1&2 charging as well as off the HV battery. Regards Mike

    Electric heater question

On the 23 model with heat pump, they use the same engine coolant circuit. I ran some tests on a cold morning and just running the heat pump with the engine off, the heat pump circuit raised the engine temperature from 49 to 74 degrees in 15 min. On certain Outlander's (image below) they also...

Thanks for the replies - Hey a lot of drivers love single pedal, my wife won't drive her EV without using it. LOL Have a great Holiday Guys!

23’ Outlander Innovative Pedal - Mike Mas

Thanks for the reply - Just to be clear, I'm not saying owners should not use Innovative Pedal if you like it use it. However other than the "Convenience" feature in stop and go traffic there is no advantage. All my I-3's had single pedal driving, while it's different and unique it offers no...

23’ Outlander Innovative Pedal - Mike Mas

Thanks for the reply - single pedal driving has been analyzed and studied thousands of time and the results are always the same it reduces range, As I mentioned, if you need that much regen braking you're going to fast to your stopping point. The most efficient driving with EV's is to coast...

PHEV Mode Not Available - 2022

Good possibility it has to do with regen amounts on a high SOC battery not being able to accept higher than B2 regen, or it could be temperature related or the engine needs to warm up locking out EV mode. Mike

What CAN I tow with PHEV

Great thread guys - I would think the best bet for the Outlander PHEV is to fully charge prior to a tow and leave it in "Keep or Hold" mode which offers two advantages: !) The battery is fully charged for hills or hard pulls. 2) In "Hold or Keep" mode the engine helps to provide current below...

23’ Outlander Innovative Pedal - Mike Mas

Thanks for the reply - I 'm pretty sure he knows exactly what I'm talking about. There's current, wattage, volts, losses, heat, amperage etc, but there's no need to make a simple PHEV any more complex than needed for the sake of new owners. Regards - Mike

23’ Outlander Innovative Pedal - Mike Mas

Thanks for the reply - However I'm not missing your point at all. You're just confused when it comes kinetic energy stored in a moving car. You need to re-read my last post: There are different forms of energy when slowing or stopping an EV, crash, brakes or using the EV's motor. If you apply...

23’ Outlander Innovative Pedal - Mike Mas

Thanks for the reply- there are different forms of energy when slowing or stopping an EV, crash, brakes or using the EV's motor. If you apply this energy to the drive motors to slow or stop the car it is producing current. If this same kinetic energy is used by the brakes then the energy is...

Fuel economy at highway speed phev vs ice model

Hello All - Great thread on the Outlander - The primary reason the RAV 4 Prime has better mileage than the Outlander PHEV is their differences in transmissions. The RAV 4 is equipped with a e-CVT variable transmission which keeps the engine spun up so it remains in optimum torque and rpm power...

False Advertising - Class Action Lawsuit

I tend to disagree, the reason I bought my Outlander is because unlike many other Phev's the Outlander is not only a real EV but a 4WD EV. Not only that I have the option of regarding without even stopping the car. I live in rural area and I get 50+ miles of pure EV driving just as I would...

23’ Outlander Innovative Pedal - Mike Mas

Thanks for the reply - Your correct if kinetic energy is regenerated and goes to the battery as current - if it goes to brakes its just kinetic energy dissipated in heat. While on the subject of brakes, I neglected to mention when using Innovative Pedal, you can visually see it in action by...

Occasional constant beeping from bonnet area?

Disregard I just found out what it is - anytime the charger is plugged in the car and you open the hood even if the car is off the beeper sounds I guess to warn of high voltage. Thanks Mike
