    Towing with 2023 Outlander PHEV

Some of this may have to do with it being the 2023 version and likely getting more activist lawyers involved over time, but it may also have to do with our climate. Having a heavy trailer behind you going downhill on an icy road can be scary if there is no trailer braking. The Outlander does not...

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

I just got the software update letter from Mitsubishi Canada this morning. Here is the key section: "It is important to keep the electric drive battery from getting too cold as it may not operate under these conditions. Please note as the vehicle is driven, the battery will generate some heat...

    Frozen Charging Port - Solutions?

I had a lot of problems with the charging door not opening and had the latch mechanism replaced twice by the dealer. Ultimately, the technician suggested I spray the shaft occasionally with silicon libricant and this seems to have improved things a lot. Wonder if it is slightly out of alignment...

Level 2 charger at home, anybody? What are your thought?

I have a 2023 with a larger battery. It takes me 10-12 hours to charge it on 120V. I installed the charger before I decided on the vehicle, so I wasn't sure what the maximum charging rate would be at the time. I'm glad I used the electrician to calculate what my home could deliver because he...

Level 2 charger at home, anybody? What are your thought?

I bought the ChargePoint Home Flex Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger, 16 to 50 Amp, 240V, Level 2 WiFi Enabled EVSE from Amazon before I took delivery of my car. I hired an electrician to hard wire it in to my outside wall, but you can make the unit plugable as well. I'm very happy with it and it is...

Full on conversation to CCS or NACS?

If anything, I think it is the other way around. I think the battery isn't warm enough. I don't have this problem in the summer, only when I hi-speed charge in below zero weather in the winter. I have an iPhone. Is there a way of monitoring the battery temperature other than the Android only...

Full on conversation to CCS or NACS?

Unfortunately, the charging here is billed based on time, not power consumption, so it makes charging the Outlander considerably more expensive than the EVs.

Full on conversation to CCS or NACS?

I've successfully used 6 different Flo Chademo chargers here in Nova Scotia and I have seen other Outlanders on them too. Can't explain the difference. However. one curious thing I'm finding in the colder weather is that after Chademo charging the car shifts out of EV mode much more often at...

Full on conversation to CCS or NACS?

I've used the Chademo on my 2023 many times at our local Flo charging stations and it works fine, but the charging rate is a fair bit slower than the capacity of the charger. Maybe the Plugshare charger can't match the charging rate the Outlander needs.

    2023 PHEV Outlander

The 10% ethanol blend decreases fuel efficiency by 3-4%, so add that to the cost of the fuel. I worried that ethanol would attract water which would be more likely to contaminate the fuel, but in fact it can dissolve a small amount of condensation that may be in the fuel tank and burn it off...

    Driving tips

Thanks, this helps explain the trip I had in my 2023 Outlander this afternoon. I was pulling an empty trailer home for about 95km over fairly level ground. The trailer is enclosed, about 7ft off the ground, 5ft wide plus wheels and 8ft long, so a fair bit of wind resistance. I started with about...

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

I'm fortunate to live in Nova Scotia where it hasn't gotten below-10C yet, so no cold weather problems yet once I let the ICE warm up the car first. If/when I do run into problems, I plan to try Mike Mas's solution of putting an all weather marine bilge heater on the driveway surface under the...

Pressurized Fuel Tank - does Outlander PHEV have it?

In the 2023 there is a button on the dash you have to press to release the pressure before filling.

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

I have seen elsewhere that Mitsubishi claims that leaving it plugged in will warm the battery sufficiently by running a charge/discharge cycle to generate heat. Are you leaving it plugged into a 220 V charger when you have these problems?

‘Charge mode’ - is that bad for the battery?

I have a J1772 220V home charger for my 2023. I don't consider this as fast charging like the Chedomo port. I bought a programable Chargepoint one from Amazon before I took delivery of the car. I thought its programming options would be important - but the Outlander can take care of it so I...

Outlander Phev In-Depth Observations - Mike Mas

Is that the 400W version you are using? I could see blocking off the underside of the car with some plywood panels to keep the heat in outdoors.

A/C auto mode and snowflake symbol...

In my understanding of the 2023 with a heat pump, there is cold, dry air being pumped to the outside whenever the heat pump is being used to heat the car. Diverting some of this back to the cabin should not cause an increase in electricity consumption, but you would need to engage the ICE heater...

    Coasting ReGens

I find the behaviours different in practice. For me, driving in one pedal mode or at a higher B rating seems to demand more pedal force and a lot more attention to coast for long distances without either regenerating or powering. I enjoy driving the car in this mode, but I find I don’t coast...

Cold Weather Performance - North American 2023

Does the heat pump actually shut off or is it just gradually becoming less efficient? My understanding is that the heat pump heats the engine coolant that then goes through the heater core to heat the cabin. So what I think you want is a monitor on the engine coolant temperature that would kick...

    Coasting ReGens

On my 2023, I can see a fair amount of regenerative braking happen on the green graph when I use the brake pedal while driving in the 2 or less regen settings. The brake pedal appears to use regenerative braking first, then the brake pads second when more stopping power is needed or the battery...
