MiPHEV's Highway Trip Economy, Trailering, and Fuel Logbook Data

I recently bought a used 2019 with ~68,000 miles (110,000km) on the clock for use this summer as a sort of test mule to determine if the newer 2023+ Outlander PHEV might be right for our next longer term car. I am using this as a backup commuter and a highway trip car, and will be testing long...

General Question about the Air Conditioning Compressor.

Your dealer is misinformed. More information was provided by Trex here: https://www.myoutlanderphev.com/threads/technical-graphs-and-images.1278/post-13908

General Question about the Air Conditioning Compressor.

No doubt it would be cheaper, but the A/C wouldn't work much of the time, and the car itself would shut down if the battery got too hot while the engine is off, which is when the battery usually warms up due to higher discharge rates - it's a complete non-starter to use an engine-driven...

General Question about the Air Conditioning Compressor.

There are lots of bad shops, they surely outnumber the good ones by a large margin... This is one of the reasons I do my own work when possible, as even (especially) dealerships are often very high up the list of just how bad, a bad shop, can be! This is apparently a luxury of the US legal...

    Outlander PHEV Sub-Zero Operation Question

I have the older 2019 MY, but cold weather performance is something I'll be paying attention to, especially after seeing the difference a cold battery made on a really long highway trip blocking parallel mode from engaging for the whole trip - a 36% hit to fuel economy! I already sketched up a...

General Question about the Air Conditioning Compressor.

It's a rare failure for sure, but you can buy the part new for $2,500 and have it installed by any competent shop or install it yourself, or buy a used take-off for $400 and do the same - you can buy those from car-part.com. Car operating expenses vary *wildly* based on owner skill level...

What did you do with your Outlander today?

Changed the oil and filter this morning, very pleased with the ease of service and low cost, only $9 for the OEM MZ690072 filter and $19 for the full synthetic 0w-20 oil, reset the reminder for another 4700 miles, and back on the road in 10 minutes!

    Heavy freeway driving

Tom is from California, there are not really any fuel efficient diesel vehicles in the United States. Based on the large price premium for diesel fuel here, you'd need a car in the same class that could get >45 MPG highway to have the same up front fuel costs, plus you'd need to save roughly...

    Heavy freeway driving

I've found the "Normal" mode gave me the best results so far, although my assumption is that all the modes will return *mostly* the same economy based on this graph: Based on that, once whatever mode you're in reaches the steady state, it will run in parallel mode engine on for awhile, then...

    Punctures

Pages from the owner's manual, chapter 8 "For Emergencies" I also carry a $10 tire plug kit in the glovebox, comes with the tools, plugs, and a bottle of rubber cement. Also handy to have a multi tool or needle nose pliers to remove foreign objects from the tread area! :)

    long journey

I'm working on extensively testing this now; I'll be putting on thousands of miles of highway driving on my old 2019 2.0L/12kWh I just bought used. So far, the best results I've had are using it in Normal mode, but this time of year there are large temperature variations that throw more...

What did you do with your Outlander today?

Normal mode on the 8 hour drive tested today. It depletes charge and cycles right around 30% SoC +/-, slowly charges up about 5% of dashboard capacity and discharges to 1% - stays in parallel mode at all times when the engine is running. Best economy by far at 67mph (108kph) returning 35.32...

What did you do with your Outlander today?

I was using Save mode. I just did a new 8 hour trip yesterday for the first time and used Charge on and off (off when it reached 89% SoC and dropped it off parallel) - but that did the trick. I wanted to try running it in Normal on the return leg to full depletion, to see if it would stay...

What did you do with your Outlander today?

Just bought a used 2019 GT in the US, took it for its first winter road trip under our ownership, where it returned absolutely abysmal MPG figures. Due to I suspect the cool temperatures, It stayed in series hybrid mode the entire trip except for a few very brief hill climbs on the interstate...

2019 Outlander PHEV aux battery in California

AutoZone at 94 N San Tomas Aquino rd, Campbell, CA 95008 has a Duralast Platinum AGM 51R in stock, they run $250. I'm actually surprised any auto parts store doesn't have one of these in stock, they've become a pretty common size in the US...

Extend battery with 94 cels lipo4

Looks like someone's already done it based on those pictures, if you have a link or any more details on the retrofit I'd be interested in seeing more. 100AH of LiFePO4 would take up about 90L of cargo volume and add approximately 200kg of weight, and should in theory over triple the EV range...
