Hi folk... new to this forum and new to the phev.

I am curious to know if this is a fault, I am experiencing, or if this is a quirk of an Outlander PHEV that I have to get used to. But...

It seems , quite prevalent , that when I put the car into reverse on a slope ( not even a very steep one, if I'm honest, the car will move forward, down the slope, just like you would in a manual car without the hand brake on. It even does this, to a lesser extent, when the auto hold is on. It's as if reverse isn't engaged until I press the accelerator.

Is this normal ( it doesn't feel it to me ), can I be doing something wrong ( always a possibility ) or is this a fault that I need to get the dealer to sort out ( distinct possibility ).

Your opinions would be appreciated.

It's normal, you're not supplying enough power to the motors to go up the slope so gravity wins.

What would you do with a manual transmission? Apply enough power to start to overcome the parking brake before releasing it. So why don't you do that with this car? I'd suggest it's laziness. Firstly laziness in not thinking about it, and secondly laziness in actually doing it.

Am I wrong?

Being presumptuous is a form of laziness - asking questions might help.
Most modern autos, especially with electric handbrakes have decent hill-hold in reverse as well as forward. Mine is a 2016 with manual handbrake and since I'm an old git I still tend use that instead of relying on its hill hold (and being old I still use the handbrake when I park, unlike many people with standard autos). I don't recall hill-hold working in reverse to be frank.
If the new member's car has the later electric handbrake, perhaps someone can confirm if they have hill-hold in reverse, other wise it won't hurt to check with your Mitsubishi dealer's technicians.
